Tulane Planning New Student Housing Development Near Claiborne Avenue
Tulane University has announced plans for a new apartment-style housing development for students on a site across South Claiborne Avenue from Greer Field at Turchin Stadium. The proposed project would include approximately 39 residential units housing about 160 students, with a mix of undergraduate and graduate residents expected. The development is currently planned to open in Fall 2027.
The building would be developed and owned by RCR Claiborne Venture, LLC, a real estate group affiliated with the Robért Fresh Market family, while Tulane would operate the residential portion as part of its broader student housing program.
Plans for the project also include a new long-term home for Ted’s Frostop, the well-known diner currently located at the corner of Claiborne Avenue and Calhoun Street. The design would incorporate the restaurant into the new development while preserving elements such as the iconic Frostop sign and mug.
According to Tulane officials, the project is intended to expand housing options near campus while activating the Claiborne corridor and maintaining neighborhood features such as Ted’s Frostop.
More details about the project, including timelines and design specifics, are expected as planning progresses.
